Slovenia: Its Publishing Landscape and Readers

An informative brochure about Slovenian publishing – from authors to publishers, book-sellers and readers – was prepared for our foreign partners and all interested audience in Summer 2019. The brochure is available in English language here.



VAT for Books to be Reduced on 1 January 2020 in Slovenia

On 1 January 2020 the VAT for books and other printed and e-publications in Slovenia will be reduced from 9,5% to 5%. The Slovenian parliament was unanimous on this proposal made by the Slovenian publishing and media industry and supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Slovenian Book Agency.

Five Female Authors from Slovenia in One Short Film

Anja Golob, Ana Schnabl, Anja Mugerli, Nataša Kramberger and Katja Perat are five outstanding awarded female authors of prose and poetry from Slovenia. Last Spring a short film about them and their work has been filmed in Ljubljana.

From Record-breaking Bestsellers to Radical New Book-forms: Awarded Slovenian Books 2019

There is a number of awards annually handed out to literary creators, from the Kresnik Award for best Slovene novel (bestowed by the newspaper publisher Delo) and the Kritiško Sito Prize (bestowed by the Slovene Literary Critics Association), to the Rožanc Award for the best collection of essays, the Veronika Award and the Jenko Award for the best poetry collections, and the Desetnica, Večernica and Levstik Awards for best children’s and young adult literature.

Two Open Calls for Residency Programs: Reading Balkans and Traduki Fellowship in Sofia

The Literary Residence Programme ‘Reading Balkans 2020’ is open to welcome fiction writers, poets, essayists, playwrights, screenplay writers and comic book writers from Southeast Europe. The Sofia Literature and Translation House aims at intensifying the literary exchange within Southeastern Europe as well as between Southeastern Europe and the German-speaking countries.

Deadlines are 30 December and 30 January!
