Countdown to the 16th seminar for translators from Slovenian

This year’s translation seminar for translators of Slovenian literature starts in exactly one month. The seminar will once again welcome 12 translators from 11 countriesPablo Arraigada (Argentina), Jelena Dedeić (Serbia), Zuzana Finger (Germany), Māra Gredzena (Latvia), Mirta Jurilj (Croatia), Nataliya Khoroz (Ukraine), Gabija Kiaušaitė (Lithuania), Lilija Mrzlikar (Bulgariaa), Davor Stojanoski (North Macedonia), Nikodem Szczygłowski (Poland), Kristina Tamulevičiūtė (Lithuania) in Yuchen Wang (China).

Led by mentors, Živa Čebulj, Julija Potrč Šavli and Mateja Seliškar Kenda, and with the participation of the authors, this year's participants will work in translation workshops on selected excerpts from Cimra / Roommate by Simona Hamer (Cankarjeva založba, 2025), a heady story of desire marked by a lucid, captivating, and socially engaged female voice; Lahko bi umrl na tem kavču z mano / You Could Die On This Couch with Me by Andrej E. Skubic (Mladinska knjiga, 2024), the first young adult novel by the multi-award-winning author Andrej E. Skubic; and Steklene stene / Glass Walls by Ana Svetel (Beletrina, 2024), a short-story collection that became one of the most critically acclaimed books in Slovenia in 2025.

Participants will also attend lectures on contemporary Slovenian literature and translation studies by Ana Geršak, Aljoša Harlamov, Melita Koletnik, Erwin Köstler, and Simon Zupan, meet with Slovenian publishers, and take part in a varied cultural programme.

The seminar, organised by the Slovenian Book Agency, will take place from 17 to 21 August in Ljubljana and Maribor.
