The Single Price for Books Act was adopted in Slovenia in January 2014 and, following a transitional period, entered into force on 26 August 2014. Its purpose is to regulate the book market by ensuring price stability and predictability in book sales for a limited period.
The Act requires that new books be sold at a fixed retail price set by the publisher for six months after publication. During this period, publishers and retailers are not allowed to discount the book. However, exceptions are permitted for book launches, promotional events, book fairs, and book festivals, where temporary discounts of up to 20% may be applied under the conditions specified by the law.
