This year’s translation seminar for translators of Slovenian literature starts in exactly one month. The seminar will welcome 12 translators from 11 countries: Barbora Almaši (Slovakia), Petra Amalia Bachmann (Croatia/Germany), Miloš Biedrzycki (Poland), Marieke Haenebalcke (Belgium), David Heredero Zorzo (Slovenia/Spain), Jelena Ivanišević (Serbia), Petra Janků (Czech Republic), Aleš Kozár (Czech Republic), Sergiu Lozinschi (Romania), Dimana Miteva (Bulgaria), Mathias Rambaud (France), and Yuliia Stankevych (Ukraine).

During the translation workshops, participants will work on selected excerpts from In če vsi pozabijo/And If Everyone Forgets by Selma Skenderović (Cankarjeva založba, 2024), Živalsko mesto/Animal City by Manca G. Renko (No!Press, 2024), and O vinu, kozah in drugih prevarah/On Wine, Goats, and Other Deceptions by Boris Kolar (Goga, 2023). These sessions will be led by mentors Anja Naglič, Đurđa Strsoglavec, and Simon Zupan, with participation from all three guest authors.

The seminar will begin with an opening panel titled “What (Can) Translators Do for Translations,” featuring translators Liza Linde, Aleš Kozár, and Iztok Ilc. The programme will also include lectures by Aleksandra Gačić on “Language Crossing: Exophone Literatures in Slovenia Today” and Aljoša Harlamov on “Exploring the Latest Movements in Slovenian Literature”, meetings with Slovenian publishers, and a literary walk through Ljubljana.

The professional part of the programme is intended for participants of the seminar, while the evening events with authors will be open to the public.

Organised by the Slovenian Book Agency in cooperation with the Slovenian Association of Literary Translators (DSKP), the seminar will take place from 18 to 22 August in Ljubljana and Maribor.
