Vienna Book Fair Buch Wien (12–16 November 2025)

At this year’s Vienna Book Fair, Slovenia’s presence is organised by The Slovenian Culture and Information Centre and the Slovenian Book Agency, in cooperation with TRADUKI.

On Friday, 14 November, at 3:00 p.m., the Donau Lounge stage will host the event Change Through Culture – 40 Years of European Capitals of Culture. Featuring Márton Méhes (Director of the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Vienna and initiator of the Donau Lounge project), Muhamed Beganović (Editor-in-Chief of the cultural magazine QAMAR), and Mija Lorbek (Director of the European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica–Gorizia 2025) The discussion will explore the transformative potential of culture and the European Capitals of Culture initiative, . The conversation will be moderated by Sophia Beiter, Editor-in-Chief of Info Europa magazine.

On Sunday, 16 November, at 10:30 a.m., the Children’s Stage will welcome Žiga X Gombač, who will present the German translation of his picture book Gobčko in Hopko, published in Austria this autumn under the title Schnuffel und Hops (translated by Natalie Alexandra Zaleznik, illustrated by Tanja Komadina, ACHSE Verlag, 2025). The event with the author will be moderated by Christian Sommer.

Later that day, at 12:00, the Donau Lounge will feature the talk Between Languages, with two Slovenian Ingeborg Bachmann Prize winners, Tamara Štajner and Ana Marwan. Together with Annemarie Türk, they will discuss why authors choose to write in a language other than their mother tongue and how this shapes their creative process.

For the first time, the Slovenian Book Agency will join TRADUKI and Liechtenstein at a shared stand (A26). The stand will feature the latest translations of Slovenian works into German alongside the most recent Slovenian releases.

The Vienna Book Fair serves as an important platform for discovering new works by Slovenian authors and for fostering connections with publishers, editors, iterary mediators, and cultural managers.
