The Slovenian Book Agency (JAK) will open two public calls for foreign publishers on Friday, 20 March 2026:
- Call for the selection of cultural projects in the field of translation into foreign languages for 2026 (JR4–P–2026);
- Call for proposals for funding of cultural projects to co-finance the printing costs of translations of original Slovenian works in foreign languages for the year 2026 (JR5–TRUBAR–2026).

The deadline for submission of applications for both calls will be 24 April 2026.

1. Call for the selection of cultural projects in the field of translation into foreign languages for 2026 (JR4–P–2026)

The subject of the public call JR4-P-2026 is the selection of contractors and subsidizing their cultural projects in the field of translations into foreign languages in 2026.

The goal and purpose of the public call is support for first translations of works originally written in Slovenian into foreign languages. JAK will also co-finance translations of works written in other languages when the author is part of the Slovenian cultural environment.

Eligible works include fiction, children’s and young adult literature, including graphic novels and comics, as well as essayistic and works of literary criticism in the field of culture and humanities that will be published in book form or performed by a theatre company abroad. The call specifically excludes support for the publication of textbooks, scientific monographs, exhibition catalogues, cookbooks, and self-help manuals.
Translations funded within the framework of this call must be published by 31 August 2028 at the latest. 

Eligible applicants include legal entities (publishers, theatre companies) registered outside Slovenia that will ensure the publication or performance of the first translation of works originally written in Slovenian, or works written in other languages when the author is part of the Slovenian cultural environment.

Within the framework of this call, each applicant may submit a maximum of two (2) applications.

2. Call for proposals for funding of cultural projects to co-finance the printing costs of translations of original Slovenian works in foreign languages for the year 2026 

The subject of the public call JR5–TRUBAR–2026 is the selection of contractors and co-financing the printing costs of translations of original Slovenian works in foreign languages in 2026. JAK will also co-finance translations of works written in other languages when the author is part of the Slovenian cultural environment.

Within the framework of this call, JAK will co-finance the printing costs of first editions in foreign languages of authors whose works are originally written in Slovenian, as well as works written in other languages when the author is part of the Slovenian cultural environment. Eligible works include fiction, children’s and young adult literature, including silent books, graphic novels and comics, as well as essayistic and works of literary criticism in the field of culture and humanities. The call specifically excludes support for the publication of textbooks, scientific monographs, exhibition catalogues, cookbooks, and self-help manuals.

Within the framework of this call, each applicant may submit a maximum of three (3) applications.
