Essays I and Essays II bring Zabel’s rich legacy of writing about contemporary art theory and modern and contemporary Slovenian visual arts. Essays I is organised into more general theoretical segments (Slovenian Art, East–West; The White Cube, the Role of the Curator, The Role of the Institution; Visual/Non-visual; Production of National Tradition and others), while the second volume, Essays II, brings more in-depth analyses of the works of visual artists and exhibitions (individual or group) for which Igor Zabel collaborated not only as a theorist but also as a curator (Venice Biennial, Manifesta 3, U3). The books cover the period from 1988 up to 2005. Essays II includes also Zabel’s extensive bibliography. Essays III brings the texts from literary theory and criticism that Zabel published between 1978 and 1992. The book is divided into three sections: the first includes texts that explore the theory of interpretation of literary works, the second includes analyses of individual works (of prose or drama), and the third the texts in which Zabel introduced young readers to poetry and slightly more unusual prose works.
