Dr. Dimitrij Rupel, a Slovenian sociologist, politician and writer, has had his third book published by Slovenska matica. Previously, Slovenska matica published his Slovenia in the International Setting in 2011 and Iron and Velvet or From Culture to a State in 2017. Images from Reality, which raise associations with Cankar’s Images from Dreams while already distancing from them both in terms of theme and mood, shed light on the time of Slovenia's endeavours to become independent, and on the events after it succeeded to do so. The book falls into two parts, the first one being exceptionally rich and valuable as regards facts, containing documents that only became publicly accessible lately. The second part, meanwhile, is of a more personal nature also in terms of its genre, as it consists of published correspondence between Dimitrij Rupel and Borut Trekman, who co-shaped politically the early independence period.
