This is a book about things we can find – still or again – in Marx’s analysis of society. We live in a time when social sciences have to regain their ability to act they once had and lost. Today, we must once again strive to understand societies in a way that would train us to change them. For this purpose, the book decides to rummage through the Marxist tradition. It returns to the “critique of political economy” and uses it to gain insight into the “material base” of the societies, into Marx’s “hidden abode of production”. Drenovec rethinks, in a comprehensible and accessible way, theory through practice; his book is pinned to the direct experience of life in the contemporary world and it encourages us to think. Social analysis is endless and much more exacting than the analyses of the financial world; but at the same time, it is accessible and, in its own special way, simple.
