This book is conceived as a coherent dictionary of frequently used terms of Freud’s psychoanalysis with the addition of certain key concepts of Melanie Klein, Jacques Lacan, and other theoreticians of psychoanalysis. Every entry is equipped with references and, if need be, additional comments. In the book, the fundamental concepts of psychoanalysis are not only explained (also in view of their development) but are also critically considered according to the coherence of their author’s theories (and practice). Freud’s fundamental findings are still not understood in their entirety, while his theoretical conundrums are often subjected to reduction or simplification. The author believes that it is precisely these conundrums and inconsistencies that can provide a fruitful basis for a critique of the subsequent, supposedly “more advanced” psychoanalytical reflections. The book is an excellent theoretical manual for psychoanalysts, analytical psychotherapists, and all who are interested in psychoanalysis.
